About us

You are in the first Tapas Restaurant of Ploiesti. Please let us take you inside the Spanish gastronomic culture and make you enjoy the Spanish tapas and other Mediterranean goodies.
In Spanish “tapa” means “cap”, “roof ” and there are several explanations for the etymology of this word. An often given explanation is that, in the past, a piece of cardboard or a slice of bread was placed over the glass, in order to keep flies away; in time it has become a habit to cover glasses with a snack.

Some people believe that the name comes from the 16th century when the owners of Castilian taverns found out that the aroma and the strong taste of mature cheese helped them cover the taste of cheap or even tainted wine, so they spread the habit of covering glasses of cheap wine with pieces of cheese so as to make it pass for quality wine.

Another legend says that the tapas were born because of the Spanish king, Wise Alfonso the 10th’s disease; this disease forced him to have small snacks (often only a few nibbles) together with a glass of wine, between the main meals of the day. Feeling better after such treatment (otherwise not so hard to bear), the king decreed that wine should never be served in Castilia’s inns without a small snack.

But “tapas” means a lot more than a simple snack, be it a very delicious one: “las tapas” are part of the Spanish gastronomy and culture, a social ritual that has been kept unaltered for  centuries, and that can be put in a nutshell, as the Spanish say, by “buena comida, buen vino y sobre mas, buenos amigos” (“good food, good wine and most of all, good friends”).Nowadays the tapas give us the chance to cherish unforgettable memories of the best moments!

And since we are honoured by your presence here today, we wish to offer you a part of the spirit you can find in any Tapas Restaurant of the wonderful Spain.

We really hope to make you feel at home here!
